Scripture Memory Listening Guidelines
No child may recite memory to his or her parent.
No child may recite memory near his or her parent.
A child is allowed to sit down with a Memory Coach one time each memory session.
A child is allowed to stop and start a memory passage three times.
A child must have the entire Bible reference of memory work to count as complete. A child is not allowed to leave the memory session, find the reference and then re-enter the Memory Room.
The Memory Coach may give a 5% margin of error on memory work through Memory Level 2. Example: conjunctive words - but, and, therefore, etc. (Sword of the Spirit, Psalmist, Sermon on the Mount, and Bible Blast BLAZE levels must be word-perfect.)
A Memory Coach may not give hints such as the beginning sound of a word.
A child may not leave out a phrase or switch phrases around.
The Memory Listening Coach’s children are allowed in the Memory Room if they are there to recite their own memory work. It is distracting for other children when parents are tending to their own children’s needs. For example: “I need my offering;” “May I get money for pop?” or “I need my Bible.” Please remind children not to enter once the Memory Room is open and memory has begun.
Children are asked for the reference first before recitation begins.
Memory Coaches need to communicate in the Memory Room with hands only. No talking in the Memory Room. No big waves - this could distract children, causing them to lose concentration.
A Memory Coach needs to set up a listening environment for the child. Seat children so they look at the wall or directly at you. Take children to a different location if they seem distracted.
A Memory Coach should not stare at the child during recitation. They should look down and follow along in the Bible or Bible Blast manual. This helps the child to be less nervous.
Before listening to memory work, Memory Coaches are to remind children that they will wait for 4 or 5 minutes if they get stuck. Memory Coaches are not to sit for 10 minutes waiting for memory work of the child.
When “time” is called in the Memory Room (five minutes before closing), Memory Coaches are to finish listening with the child they have, place packet on the table, and leave the Memory Room. With no Memory Coaches left in the Memory Room, parents who arrive late will see that they need to bring their children on time.
Guidelines for:
Sword of the Spirit
Sermon on the Mount
Bible Blast BLAZE
Children must say all work word-perfectly, including conjunctions and small words like and, but, thou, and thus, etc. Whatever translation is used, the recitation must be word perfect.
Children must not be given hints. Memory Coaches are to just sit still and listen. The facilitator of memory should decide how many minutes a child is given to think. Some children will take an hour if you allow it. A general rule is only a couple of minutes.
Children may sing a passage BUT it must be word perfect. If any other words are used in the song, this is not word perfect recitation.
